Early Reading Strategy

The report of the expert panel on early reading in Ontario 2003

Reading success is the foundation for achievement throughout the school years. There is a critical window of opportunity from the ages of four to seven for children to learn to read. Research on early reading difficulties is very clear: children who continue to experience reading difficulties in Grade 3 seldom catch up later. It makes sense to detect problems early in order to avoid the escalation of problems later. This document provides instructional strategies to help students read.

Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting in Ontario Schools

 K-12

The primary purpose of assessment is to improve student learning. This could be in the form of assessing to inform our instruction (alter and change things), to inform parents of their child's progress, and/or help make learning visible to the student so they know where they are and where they need to go. The following document provides more information about assessment policies in Ontario's schools.
