Commitment to Students and Student Learning

As human beings, we often encounter challenging social interactions and attitudes. These interactions sometimes differ from our expectations and can even be the opposite of what we anticipate. I experienced a similar situation during my practicum, where the social dynamics under the mentorship of another qualified teacher were not as I had hoped. Despite these challenges, I remained dedicated to my students’ learning and engagement. I focused on creating interactive and hands-on learning experiences, such as completing the unit on seed germination and plant growth and creating engaging literacy and language lessons on persuasive writing.

I made assure that students gets full benefit of my knowledge when I am around them. These approaches reflect my commitment to fostering an equitable and respectful learning environment where students feel empowered to participate actively, share ideas, and develop their understanding. This experience reinforced my belief in prioritizing my students' growth and well-being, even when faced with external difficulties. It highlights my commitment to students and their learning.

Professional Knowledge

I ensured my teaching and unit planning were connected to the Ontario Curriculum. By aligning my lessons with curriculum expectations, I made sure that students not only meet the required standards but also engage in meaningful learning experiences. For example, in my science unit, I provided hands-on opportunities for students to explore key concepts, such as examining the inside of a seed, growing the seed, and observing its growth. This balance between curriculum alignment and effective teaching practices reflects my growing professional knowledge.

Professional Practice

I applied my professional knowledge in ways that promoted student engagement learning. My lesson plans include a variety of strategies, such as reading aloud, promoting inquiry questioning, and hands-on activities. I think that, as a teacher in training, proper planning and using different instructional strategies are part of professional practice, and I continue to do so.

Leadership in Learning Communities

I am being a resourceful member in our professional program learning community, where i strive to share and learn from others.

Ongoing Professional Learning

I am committed to ongoing professional growth. I regularly reflect on my teaching experiences and identify areas for improvement, such as time management and structuring lessons over multiple days. By analyzing and adapting my practices, I ensure that I continue to grow as an educator and provide the best learning opportunities for my students.

Overall Assessment

I align well with the Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession. My dedication to my students, my connection to the Ontario Curriculum, and my reflective approach to teaching are key strengths. As I continue to refine my time management and expand my role in fostering collaborative learning communities, I feel confident in my journey toward becoming an effective and impactful educator.
