Lesson Planning, do's and don'ts
1. What has helped you as a learner as you have progressed through the Lesson Plan Assignment thus far? Why?
The peer feedback based on the rubric was a helpful activity. When I was peer reviewing the lesson plan, I learned so many things. I gained a better understanding of the expectations of the assignment and I received feedback from my peers that gave me ideas on how to improve the lesson plan. I can now see where I can correct myself. I think that was a good learning experience. The video lesson and foundation class also helped me to understand the importance of good questioning and time management. Although we have not delivered any lesson yet, this sample work will help us a lot in delivering the lesson in practice.
As I am writing this, I am considering all possible questions that students might ask me and all possible questions that I might ask them that will help me develop the second part of my lesson plan. In sum, the peer feedback activity, video lesson and foundation class were all beneficial resources that will help me create an effective lesson plan.
2. What has hindered your learning as you have progressed through this assignment thus far? Why? How might you address this moving forward?
Through planning this assignment, I did a lot of research in terms of what I want to teach and what I want my students to learn. It was a bit difficult not knowing how much students knew about the topic. So any pre-knowledge assessment would have helped. For example, in the given classroom scenario, besides other information about the classroom, if it was mentioned that grade 2 studied this topic last week, and this lesson is in continuation to last week would have helped. I think it was our first attempt, and it wasn't very bad. Going forward, it will get better, and I am looking forward to the instructor's feedback, which obviously should help me further incorporate anything I have missed or overlooked.
